Gee, we're sorry Jesus got borned and all
Such is my reply to those who are vexed by the fact Christmas is actually about Christ.
During Ramadan, I don't hear a lot of calls for referring to it as We-Don't-Eat-Very-Much Month.
During Yom Kippur, I don't hear a lot of calls for referring to it as A-Day-Off-From-Work-For-Jewish-Families Day.
Why, during Christmas, are we supposed to tiptoe around the fact it is Christmas?
John Gibson has a book out called "The War on Christmas: How the Liberal Plot to Ban the Sacred Christian Holiday Is Worse Than You Thought", in which he documents various attempts to spray paint political correctness over the sacred. For example,
That's just the tip of the iceberg.
Even the White House Christmas Christmas card this year succumbed.
You're welcome to a happy holiday if you wish. Me, I'm going to have a holly jolly Christmas and celebrate that Holy Night.
Merry Christmas, everyone.

* In Illinois, state government workers were forbidden from saying the words "Merry Christmas" while at work
* In Rhode Island, local officials banned Christians from participating in a public project to decorate the lawn of City Hall

* Arizona school officials ruled it unconstitutional for a student to make any reference to the religious history of Christmas in a class project

A drive toward shopping yesterday revealed this poster at the columns that framed the entrance to one neighborhood: "Jesus." A second poster proclaimed "The name above all names."
The front signboard for another Baptist church rejoiced: "Christmas is about Christ."

As one who grew up in a Baptist church, I say "Amen"!

I would just like to see some goofy joker try and make me not say Merry Christmas.
But then again, that response while not only being un-merry is rather unlike Jesus example.
Patience.

Actually the best defense is TO isolate the secularists. It's not like they are anything but a lost minority at this the holiest time of year.
For instance, it's 'NOT a holiday, IT'S CHRISTMAS.' (per the Charlie Brown Christmas, 1965).
"happy holidays" is replied to with "you mean MERRY CHRISTMAS don't you?"
Bumper sticker: "Avoid the holiday rush, KEEP CHRISTMAS this year"
Query to your local business: "DO YOU sell ONLY holiday stuff or is this for CHRISTMAS?'
----------
I've noticed that personal greetings of Christmas are MORE frequent this year.
And when you give the greeting to a stranger (a clerk at a Home Depot), she lights up and replies sincerely, "Merry Christmas."
Charlie Brown (circa 1965) would be happy.
For those who want instrumental Christmas music on DVD, we can recommend Andre Rieu's (European Christmas)DVD full of children, animals, people and the true meaning.

Rick Moore at http://holycoast.blogspot.com
gives us a glimpse of the White House Christmas Card in detail.
Inside is a Scripture verse that you should read.

There's hope, then!
And thanks much for the tip regarding the WH Christmas Card. I didn't realize that verse from Psalms was in there. That's good to know. (Still would've been nice if they had been bold and said Merry Christmas!)

Actually a similiar term, Season's Greetings, is a venerable Christmas card greeting. Happy Holidays serves as a more recent dumbed down version of the phrase.
All are fine as long as they refer properly to Christmas. Why else have them? It becomes unacceptable and offensive when they are used, however, for other purposes.

My objection to vanilla greetings comes when they are used out of a timid desire to not offend. I don't think any apologies should be made for the "reason for the season".
