Belly up to the bar
I meant to say something about this a few days ago.
An infrared study of the galaxy indicates the Milky Way galaxy (our galaxy) probably has a well defined bar.
This is pretty big news! While there have been indications before, to confirm it is a big discovery.

One of the great things about golden age SF is the sense of wonder. Believers never doubted the worth of seeing the rest of the universe. Your story sustains their faith.
Yet science in the press release STOPS.. goes no further. Will no one speak of Design?
I really believe (as a golden age SF reader) that many original SF enthusiasts were looking for just this thing. Not intelligent life (we should have this here on earth, although it's been in hiding for the last few decades)
But the greater infinity. And He who made it.
Whether they found him.?? But the golden age writers did seek..
How can one not sense Him when one reads this new evidence?

Good points again, John. This is something I'd like to get into more in the future, but I always have a similar take on this too. Most SF fans and astronomers would be thrilled, and indeed in some sense hope so, if there were extraterrestial life out there, beings higher than us, super intelligent, etc...
Yet, when faced with the prospect of the existence of God, a Being that fits many of the same characteristics (powerful, unseen, higher intelligence, etc...) they, at best, say ho-hum.
