Peace Like A River

It was a wide river, mistakable for a lake or even an ocean unless you'd been wading and knew its current. Somehow I'd crossed it... Now I saw the stream regrouped below, flowing on through what might've been vineyards, pastures, orhards... It flowed between and alongside the rivers of people; from here it was no more than a silver wire winding toward the city. - Leif Enger, Peace Like A River

Yesterday Rhonda brought the kids to church just before the sunday school hour. I stayed in the nursery with Hanna during that hour, as she's probably not ready yet to be left alone. When I went into the nursery, I put her down and turned around just to go close the door, and she immediately started crying and put her arms in the air. Hmm. Ok, maybe it'll be awhile yet. And while in there, she didn't stray too far from me.

It was a rather nice day yesterday, so let John and Hanna play outside for awhile. I've been getting the little plastic teeball set out for John, and he's getting good at hitting the ball, even though the bat is maybe a tad long for him yet. We have to work on fielding though. I'll have him go stand across the yard, and hit a ball to him and tell him to catch it, but he always just stands there and watches it go by him. One I hit last went right through his legs, and he just watched it roll. One time too, I hit it a bit hard, and it hit him on the thigh, and after that he kinda shied away from other balls I hit his way. OK, we gotta work on courage and standing in there.

During his snack time, while Rhonda was giving Hanna a bath, John was down in the kitchen and put the James tape in to keep him busy while I helped with Hanna.

(She is getting better about baths. This time she would at least sit in the water and play a little bit without screaming bloody murder, only would whimper occasionally. But when you lay her in the water to wash her hair, oh heavens, you'd think we were skinning her alive.)

Anyway, when it was time for bed for John, it was time to turn off James, and of course that sparked howls of despair. But when we were in his room, he was telling me all about the stories on the video. He kept saying "glue" over and over, as in one of the stories, there is a crash and glue spills all over. And he'd says "bees", cuz in one story bees fly off a train and into their hive. He really likes those tapes!
